With all the luscious patina we expect of a former home of an Italian noble, the late Count Ancilotto, Loisaba elevates rustic luxury to liveable art. The tented camp features a dozen spacious airy tents with sweeping floor-to-ceiling doors and windows, polished wood floors, and chic Africana furnishings with a whimsically European twist. And of Loisaba’s many delights, one of its star attractions must be the chance to sleep, perchance to dream beneath the constellation-dappled magic of the illimitable skies of Kenya. Loisaba’s star beds are a world apart: enchanting four-poster beds set on sturdy, raised wooden platforms under thatched roofs which, when the moment is right, are handily wheeled out onto decks in complete privacy and bewitching beauty. These sought-after retreats, each set within its own private patch of wilderness, come with full staff, open-air dining with lavish bar, full bathroom and shower and, best of all, life-enhancing vistas over 60,000 acres a-brim with enchanting African creatures great and small. (Its affiliation with The Nature Conservancy and Space For Giants Elephant Foundation makes Loisaba a reassuringly safe and secure habitat for elephants, lions and, among many other beauties, the howlingly wonderful and all-too-rare wild dog.)
Twelve grand and spacious tents are resplendent with stylishly African-themed sophistication, each fitted with modern en-suite bathrooms with double basins, loo and shower. In addition to much tented-sanctuary relaxing to be done, any visit to Loisaba invites jolly gatherings over cooling drinks in the airy bar, luxuriating dinners either inside or on the grand panoramic deck, and much dipping-splashing-and-repeating in one of Africa’s two most picturesque infinity pools. Such superlative safari living is appropriately capped with congenial stories told round crackling fires, impeccable service and boundless views over Northern Laikipia.
Loisaba welcomes families to three cleverly designed double tents, each attached to a further walkway-linked convertible twin or double tent. Families appreciate their own private lounge, view-blessed verandah sitting area, and large en-suite bathroom. One family tent also features a lavish, memory-boosting private infinity pool.
With unhindered vistas that stretch as far mighty Mt Kenya and 60,000 acres of animal-rich conservancy to roam, game drives here are rich and rewarding. So too, the camp’s menu of exciting, relaxing, and enriching extra-curricular pursuits from bocce and croquet, to yoga and tennis. Trek through the Kenyan bush on camelback or horseback. Mountain bike the steep hillside of the escarpment, float in a raft downriver, rock climb soaring pinnacles or surf the remote sand-dunes of the Northern Frontier District. For one of life’s ultimate glamping moments, perhaps a few days of heli-camping, or a heli-fishing excursion for to lure a rainbow trout to the fly? Loisaba Conservancy even has its own dedicated anti-poaching team – bloodhound sniffer dogs – available for private meet and greets.
