We’re tickled pink by our press. See why.
The Cape Winelands, less than an hour or so from Cape Town, has become a travel icon for lovers of great wine and food and quietly dramatic natural scenery, and Sir Richard Branson’s Mont Rochelle pays tribute to all three with this marvelously imagined luxury hotel.
Micato has been enamoured with the Winelands for many decades, and we delight in introducing our guests to a place as well-situated, well-conceived, and downright serendipitous as Mont Rochelle, a hotel that basks in Winelands beauty and relaxation combined with activities and attractions abounding.
Mont Rochelle’s 26 rooms and suites come in a variety of styles and sizes, but all meet Sir Richard Branson’s exacting standards in decor, luxe amenities, and deep-down comfort.
The hotel justly prides itself on its dining, and, of course, its wines (in addition to being a hotel, Mont Rochelle is a vineyard, producing highly praised Chardonnays, Merlots, Cabernets, and other varieties under its Miko, Mont Rochelle, and Little Rock brands; tastings in its 150 year-old cellar are part of the Mont Rochelle experience). The hotel’s informal Country Kitchen adjoins the cellar, and its main restaurant, much acclaimed Miko, features international cuisine with innovative South African touches.
Of course, our Micato Safari Director will take us on Winelands jaunts for private vineyard visits and wine tastings, ambles in the compact region’s charming little towns like Franschhoek and Paarl, but Mont Rochelle is in many ways a destination in and of itself. Its main outdoor pool, well-shaded and as blue as the Winelands sky, has marvellous views of the Franschhoek Mountains (which, with great respect, out-drama the mountains of the California Wine Country). The hotel features a fully-equipped gym and two spa rooms, and floodlit tennis courts. Mont Rochelle’s grounds cover 100 acres, and idle or purposeful walking in the vineyard is a delight. A little further afield is the Mont Rochelle Reserve, whose hiking trails offer views of Cape Town’s Table Mountain and the ocean.
