Micato Safaris Photo Contest Winners of 2018

When safariing with Micato, you’ll be introduced to several once in a lifetime experiences. With a digital camera or smartphone on hand during your journey, you’ll be able to capture a number of those experiences to cherish in future albums and picture frames. The pictures you take on safari can also, in fact, score you a prize or two. Every year at Micato, we hold an annual photo contest and award grand, silver, and bronze prizes to the three top photos our guests had snapped in the last year. Before we dive into what you can win for each respective prize, let’s take a look at the winners of our 2018 photo contest.

The Grand Prize

Our guest, Paul Bruce, who captured this stunning photograph recalled, “While in the Serengeti, we saw some huge herds of zebra and wildebeest. The line of animals ran from one horizon to the other and crossed in front of our van. It was beautiful to watch them run like this mother and child were doing. I kept the shutter speed slow and panned the camera in sync with their speed in order to give the sense of motion.”

The Silver Prize

Ethan Hunter, the winner of the 2018 silver prize, recalled of his photograph, “This was taken at the elephant cafe in Zambia. Being able to be that close and to touch these giant creatures you get an understanding that these creatures are not only giant but they are also gentle. The people running the cafe told us that these elephants are orphans and their family died because of predators, droughts, and even poachers. When you lay your hands on the amazing creatures it’s like your souls connect. You can feel their pain.”

The Bronze Prize

While on the Soul of India trip, our 2018 bronze prize winner, Bruce Fortune, captured this spectacular photograph. Remembering the moment, they said, “I was filming a lightning/thunderstorm from the balcony of our room at the Oberoi Amarvilas. This frame is one of many where lightning struck on either side of the Taj as the storm moved from our left to the right. Pretty spectacular. Shot on an iPhone X.”

To enter the contest, simply fill out the form here and attach the photo or photos you wish to enter into the competition. If you’re crowned as one of the winners, you’re in for a treat! Grand prize winners will be awarded a $3,000 credit they can use towards a new trip with us or put towards purchases at the Micato Safari Shop. Winners of the silver prize will be granted a $1,000 credit to the Micato Safari Shop and bronze prize winners will receive a $500 shop credit.
